An Update on Rushford Town Hall - written by Ellen Newman

It has been over three years since the Town of Rushford moved into their new town hall and yet some people in the township are unaware that the building on the northwest corner of County Highway K and Bell School Road is theirs.  Built with $350,000 approved by the 2007 Rushford Township Annual Meeting, the building is meant to be not only a meeting place for the town government but to serve the township as a convenient site to meet the needs of the community and anyone who wants to use it for meetings and social events.  Because it is a tax investment of approximately $500 or more for every family of four in the township it belongs to the people and they are encourage to use it.  Its availability is not a secret.

The building has a completely equipped kitchen with stove, refrigerator and microwave.  The kitchen provides wide, roomy counters including a serving counter that is open into the large, inviting meeting room, making food preparation and serving easy and allows for quick, simple cleanup.

Tables and padded chairs to accommodate 196 people are furnished.  The building is air-conditioned in the summer and provides an inviting gathering place for any group activity.  There is a convenient, ample parking in front of the building, with picnic tables and a play area to entertain children.

The landscaping, including a rain garden and prairie grasses is a work in progress with the Master Gardeners donating their time and expertise.  Marty's Blue Sky Nursery & Landscaping Inc. and marshland Transplant Aquatic Nursery also generously donated plants and time.

The town hall has been the site of many gatherings including wedding and baby showers, graduation parties, birthday parties, reunions and receptions.  Among the organizations that take advantage of the pleasant meeting place the hall provides are the Newcomers 4-H Club, the Omro Tractor Club, as well as the Eureka Cemetery Association, and the Fox Valley Tech Soil Class.

The building is available for a rental fee of $50 to Rushford Township residents and $100 security deposit.  According to Rushford Township Clerk Peggy Hendricks, there has been only one rental that resulted in major cleanup and that was rental to someone outside the township.

Anyone wishing to inquire about renting the hall and seeing the facilities can do so by contacting Peggy Hendricks, 920-379-4515 or email her at town@northnet.net  Available dates can be found on the townships up-to-date and informational website at http://townofrushford.org

You may also attend a town meeting and see our local government at work.  Regular town meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month and zoning meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month.  Both start at 7 pm.
